It was a privilege to play on Dakota Dave Hull's new 2 disc release "Under The North Star". Dave has asked me to play some of my rarely heard solo accordion concert repertoire ahead of his set for the CD release concert on October 19th. We may even reprise some of the tunes from the Album as a Duo... Also on the bill, traditional jazz piano champion Butch Thompson. Mark your calendars!

Accordion Fans! You can find me and accordion at the Aster Cafe courtyard most TUESDAY and THURSDAY nights from 5-8pm. If I'm not there, another acoustic musician will be there providing some sweet ambience for you. You should also note that this gig is WEATHER PERMITTING, as it turns out, rain isn't too great for accordions or audience members. For all the latest updates on weather and guest artists, please follow me on twitter @patrickharison.

I've really enjoyed playing with my buddies The Cactus Blossoms. I'm very excited to be recording with them on July 5th at The Turf Club. Music fans won't want to miss this show, I know it will be a good one. The official press release is below:
For over a year and a half The Cactus Blossoms have called the Turf Club’s well-worn stage home for their weekly Monday residency. To commemorate the end of their warm stay they are inviting everyone to join them for a very special LIVE RECORDING SHOW on Friday, July 5th.
Brothers Jack Torrey (vocals/guitar) and Page Burkum (vocals/guitar) will be backed by some of Minneapolis’ finest with Randy Broughten (steel guitar), Josh Granowski (bass), Jed Germond (fiddle), and Patrick Harison (accordion) on the live album to be released on CD and vinyl later this summer.
The Cactus Blossoms’ harmonies will still be heard floating down University Ave every Monday from 8-11pm through July 22nd when the residency will officially end, and the band takes to the road with their distinctive sound hitting festivals on the west coast and down south.

Special Patty and The Buttons performance at The Dakota Jazz Club featuring New Orleans piano master Tom McDermott Thursday, August 22nd
|Pianist Tom McDermott|
Here are some nice things noted publications have had to say about him:
“Mr. McDermott is not simply a follower of tradition or a repository of old tunes. He composes within his wide-ranging idiom with a knowledgeable feeling for his sources and a sense of humor.” -John S. Wilson, New York Times
“To single out one New Orleans jazz musician for being talented and likeable is absurd. But, not long after moving here, Margaret and I were at a night club with friends when Tom McDermott, a thin, sandy-haired man, shuffled up to our table…A few minutes later, McDermott took the stage, sat down at the piano, and set it on fire. He can do anything. We’ve heard him play ragtime, ‘trad jazz,’ swing, choros from Brazil, musettes from France, and any number of other genres. He doesn’t just play tunes, either. He writes his own. How many other American musicians are writing musettes, for heaven’s sake?…We have all of Tom’s CDs, so when we’re shuffling our iPod through our stereo, it seems that every third song is being played by Tom McDermott. That’s fine with us.” -Dan Baum, New Yorker.com, May 23

Patty and The Buttons will be making our debut at the Dakota Jazz Club on April 10th, 2013!! If you’re a fan of the band, please come support us at Minnesota’s premiere jazz club. We will be playing on “Foodie night” where there is NO COVER, $10 bottles of wine and a $30 dollar tasting menu. If that’s not enough to entice you, we will also have our good friend Mr. Rick Carlson joining us on piano! There isn’t an official dance floor, but, if your feet were to start moving in a rhythmic fashion while in an upright position, I don’t think anyone would tell you to stop.
